WHAT TO EXPECT FROM MY CALGARY CAKE SMASH PHOTOGRAPHY
SESSION
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY CHILD'S 1ST CAKE SMASH SESSION
Some parents like to do these sessions very close to baby’s first birthday. If you want photos for a party, though, you will need to schedule the session roughly 3 weeks, +printing time, in advance.
WHAT TIME OF DAY IS BEST TO SCHEDULE MY CAKE SMASH SESSION?

The best time of day for a cake smash session is before your baby’s daytime nap, or soon after it. This ensures baby is well rested and content for the session.

HOW CAN I PREPARE MY BABY FOR THEIR CAKE SMASH SESSION?
​
If your child has not yet had eggs, I ask you give them some prior to your session to be sure they do not have a reaction. A reaction can be seen quickly in a session if a child has an allergy. Most reactions are hives. If your child has a severe Dairy/Egg allergy I would order a Gluten, Dairy, or Egg free cake.
It's a great idea to think of a few things that can light your child's face up instantly. It can be anything from a favourite song, clapping, peek a boo, hide and seek, a picture of themself?...etc. We will use them ALL, so be prepared:)
A fun important pre cake smash session tip is to offer the sweet flavour of vanilla frosted cake ahead of time, so when it’s cake time they are interested in eating it:) Please let me know if an allergy cake is needed ahead of time!
HOW LONG DO YOUR CAKE SMASH PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION TAKE?

Cake smash sessions take roughly 45mins-1.5hrs.There will time for breaks. I offer 2 setups with my full cake smash session: family images + the smash!

WHAT EXACTLY HAPPEN DURING YOUR CALGARY CAKE SMASH PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION?
​
I like to frame my cake smash session with a little time at the beginning of the session getting to know your child so they feel comfortable with me. Then, when they feel comfortable, we will do family poses followed by the cake smash.
​
It's important to come in with an open mind and a relaxed demeanour! Expectations for how long your little one will last during the entire session should be reasonable based on their personality and ability to adapt in new situations.

WHO SUPPLIES THE CAKE?
​
I do. I use a Naked Cake, provided by Kari's Kitchen Creations, because they have a timeless classic look to them.

HOW MANY OUTFITS DO YOU RECOMEND? IS IT EXTRA TO USE YOUR STUDIO OUTFITS?
​
I offer 2 setups with my full cake smash session: family and the smash so I recommend two outfits. Either from my client closet or bring your own.
